If you want to taste cappuccino in your favorite cafe, know that it is possible to reproduce this delicious drink at home, without special equipment!
And yes, you are not a barista and may not have all the necessities to make the perfect espresso and milk froth. It’s okay, that’s not what we want here. We just want to have fun and make, as often as possible, homemade cappuccino.
Ingredients for making a successful homemade cappuccino
Unlike many recipes, this homemade cappuccino recipe requires very few ingredients. To achieve this, you will simply need:
- One shot of espresso (50 cl)
- One dose of milk
- One dose of milk foam
Don’t panic, in fact, you really only need two ingredients: espresso and milk.Together we’ll see how to froth your milk to get the dose of milk froth that gives all its greed to this caffeinated drink!
The best way to make your own cappuccino is to get an espresso machine. So, whether you have a bean or capsule machine, you can have the base in which you will deposit the milk and milk foam.
Be warned, although espresso is ideal for preparing your own cappuccino, it is also possible to use another coffee preparation, such as a French press for example.
But in this case, the coffee should be strong enough so that the milk does not take over when you enjoy your drink. It would be a shame if your cappuccino didn’t taste like coffee!

The second ingredient necessary to prepare a cappuccino is milk. Here, i f you use classic cow’s milk, I invite you to prefer whole milk. Whole milk is fat by definition and will act best when you’re looking to make a nice milk froth! You will easily achieve a silky and smooth result.
Of course, it is entirely possible to opt for other types of milk, such as almond milk for example. This is the result I got recently with almond milk.
Essential equipment for making your own cappuccino
Now that you’ve gathered the ingredients to make your drink, it’s time to get the necessary equipment. Do not worry, there is no urgent need!
To prepare a cappuccino, you only need:
- 1 cup (160ml)
- 1 milk frother, 1 french press, or 1 airtight container (for example, an empty jam jar)
And that’s it!
The cup will logically be used to receive coffee, then milk and milk froth. For milk froth, you can use a dedicated milk frother like the 2 below.
