VATICAN CITY (CNS) – Pope Francis' meeting with Kim Davis, the county clerk from Kentucky who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses, does not equate support for her "position," the Vatican spokesman said after discussing the issue personally with the pope.

ABOARD THE PAPAL FLIGHT FROM PHILADELPHIA (CNS) – As the American Airlines plane taking him to Rome from Philadelphia took off, Pope Francis said he pictured the faces of all the people he met, and he prayed for them.

PHILADELPHIA (CNS) -- Pope Francis urged the hundreds of thousands of people gathered for the closing Mass of the World Meeting of Families to serve and care for each other as freely as God loves the human family.

PHILADELPHIA (CNS) -- Pope Francis threw away a prepared text and, to the delight of tens of thousands of people on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, spoke from the heart about the challenges and love that come with being part of a family.

pilgrimage pope 6492Excitement builds in a young family as the motorcade and Pope Francis' popemobile approach on Saturday night on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, where Pope Francis ended his historic first visit to the United States with a Mass Sunday afternoon.

More than 250 people from the Archdiocese of Hartford were in the jubilant crowd to see the motorcade and attend the Festival of Families with the pope.

The group returned for the Mass Sunday.

Archbishop Leonard P. Blair and the more than 250 members of parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford get together for a commemorative photo on Sept. 26 after a daylong conference about the importance of the family at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Drexel Hill, Pa.

The group, representing more than 100 parishes, traveled to Philadelphia September 25 to attend a Mass that Pope Francis will celebrate Sunday to close the World Meeting of Families. Pope Francis’ first apostolic visit to America coincides with the 2015 World Meeting of Families.

Philadelphia is the final stop for Pope Francis, who also has visited Washington, D.C., and New York.
