MERIDEN – Composer and liturgist Rory Cooney performed his classic compositions and new works Sept. 9 at Holy Angels Parish in South Meriden.

A dinner and the concert were sponsored by the Hartford chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.

Mr. Cooney discussed the importance of text and his belief that the messages found in the Scriptures could be delivered better musically.

He is an accomplished composer, liturgist and parish music director whose music expresses deep reverence for the text as well as a lively concern for the practical needs of the parish. He has published several recordings, and his compositions have appeared in Glory & Praise and Breaking Bread.
