Brazilians set a record for visiting the United Kingdom

Brazilians set a record for visiting the United Kingdom

disclosure

London is the most visited city by Brazilians

Brazilians are visiting – and spending – in the United Kingdom, according to the latest figures highlighted by Visit Britain, the official agency responsible for promoting tourism in Great Britain.

The information comes from the International Passenger Survey (IPS) for 2023, conducted by the British Office for National Statistics. Collecting information on international visitors to the United Kingdom, the research provides details on inbound tourism, including the number of travelers and the amount spent during the trip.

Surpassing earlier predictions, the numbers released by the survey are impressive. In 2023, Brazilian visitors reached a record number: 344 thousand Brazilians spent 425 million pounds (about R$2.8 billion) in the United Kingdom. This is the highest number recorded by a Brazilian audience in history.

Before the pandemic, it is important to highlight the comparison with the 2019 numbers. Within this parameter, there is an 18% increase in the number of visits and a 70% increase in costs for the year. Compared to 2022, revenues increased by 29% and spending by 37%.

“Our inbound tourism figures set us up for an impressive year for Britain in 2023 as we saw Brazil, our key market in Latin America, achieve historic records.”

“These increases in arrivals and spending reflect Britain’s strong appeal as a world-class tourist destination that offers a unique blend of history, culture, innovation and contemporary attractions. We look forward to continuing to welcome Brazilian visitors and deliver unforgettable events to Great Britain”, added Gager. .

Priscilla Moraes, Director of Visit Britain in Brazil, said: “We are delighted with the results of the new IPS survey, which confirms a full recovery in post-pandemic tourism and growing interest in Britain as a destination to enjoy the world’s most popular experience. Brazil’s innovative, diverse and exciting destinations will appeal to Brazilian visitors to all that Britain has to offer. Ensures that it can be fully enjoyed.

Yet in 2024, Visit Britain will continue its work with trade in Brazil, with another edition of its Brazil Roadshow, an annual event where British suppliers come to the country to meet high-level contacts from local industry, further increasing Brazilian visits to Britain.

The tourism industry in Brazil can be expected to focus more on film and television experiences in England, Scotland and Wales. From this campaign, VisitBritain will highlight the biggest hit titles in Brazil and around the world – Bridgerton, Outlander, Peaky Blinders, Harry Potter and more – with Great Britain as the backdrop.
