Sister Mary Gemma Spoldi, a member of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate, celebrated the 60th anniversary of her final profession of vows on July 2.
A native of West Haven, she graduated from West Haven High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human services, thology and religious studies from Scranton University.
Over her many years of ministry, Sister Mary Gemma fulfilled three assignments to West Haven: from 1963 to 1968 as local treasurer and a catechetical instructor for a training course for the Archdiocese of Hartford; from 1969 to 1972 at St. Paul Parish as local superior of the convent and director of religious education; and from 1983 to 1984 at St. Paul's as a catechist.
She currently is the assistant procurator for Marycrest Convent (the order's motherhouse), in Monroe, N.Y. will serving in religious education at Holy Family Church in Greenwood Lake, N.Y.
She also has ministered in Delmar and Rome, N.Y., Raritan, N.J.; and Scranton, Pa.
