Mantuan listed for the sixth time, waiting for opportunity and gaining strength from Renato Augusto in Corinthians | Corinthians

Gustavo Mantuan has been listed for the sixth consecutive time for a match in The Corinthians. At the age of 20, the attacking midfielder should once again be an option for Sylvinho’s reserve substitute, this time against Sport, this Saturday, at 4:30pm (GMT), at the Arena Pernambuco, by Brasileirao.

The player was on the bench against Atlético-GO, América-MG, Palmeiras, Bragantino and Bahia. Midfielder Renato Augusto told a news conference on Thursday that he had spoken with the boy, who had undergone three major knee surgeries.

– It’s a boy I like very much, we made a nice friendship. We talked, I’ve also been through situations like this, he knows it’s coming back little by little. Renato said he has been training well, at a high level, and little by little he will have the spaces to give him a chance.

The player underwent surgery on his left knee after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament during a friendly match for the Brazilian U-20 team, on October 29 last year. The surgery was performed on November 11th.

Last year’s operation was Gustavo Mantuan’s third. He had already torn a ligament in his right knee in 2017 and later in his left in 2019.

In a press conference following the victory over Bahia, Sylvinho was asked about the schedule with the player:

– He’s a high-quality young athlete. He has the characteristics of a striker, but can play from both sides. We were worried about giving him a great deal of training and calm, because he had such a big injury. Little by little she gained her chances. And I say again, those who plan, are the athletes. The answers come from them – he said.

Mantuan trained in Corinthians, and began to gain opportunities as a professional. He played seven matches with the team and even scored a goal against Vasco for the Brazil team. The contract with Timão is valid until January 2025

The player is the brother of Guilherme Mantuan, who also formed at the base, who was the Brazilian champion in 2017 as a replacement for Fagner.
