WATERBURY – A number of Knights of Columbus councils in the state will continue the Knights' "Coats for Kids" program, which began in the Archdiocese of Hartford in November with the distribution of 400 new coats at the Cathedral of St Joseph.

Knights of Columbus will  will distribute 250 new winter coats to children in need on Dec. 18 in Waterbury.

The distribution will take place at 11 a.m. at the Father McGivney Hall on 25 Prospect St. Mark Valerio, a district feputy for the Knights of Columbus in Waterbury, will lead Saturday’s event. He will be assisted by Sheridan Council 24, St. Michael the Archangel Council 12080, San Jaun Bautista Council 12032, and Council 13424, all in Waterbury.

This winter marks the third year in a row for the Knights’ "Coats for Kids" program, which is once again distributing thousands of new winter coats to needy children in cold climate cities in the U.S. and Canada.

The program is part of the organization’s "Help a Child in Need" program, which began in 2006 with a nationwide appeal for donations to charities that support the needs of children.

Additional Coats for Kids events in Connecticut:

On Monday, December 13, Knights will distribute 250 coats at the St. Francis and St.

Rose of Lima School at 423 Ferry Street in New Haven at 1:00 pm.

Knights will also be hosting a "Coats for Kids" distribution of 400 coats at St. Charles Barromeo Church at 391 Ogden Street in Bridgeport at 4 pm on December 18. An additional distribution of 250 coats is planned for New London with details to be announced.
