SOUTHINGTON – Performances by a Christian music group and country band, games for families and a buffet are among the festivities planned for Sept. 24 for the 50th anniversary of Mary Our Queen Parish in Plantsville.

Beginning at noon on the parish grounds at 248 Savage St., parishioners and friends will host an afternoon of events that also includes a parish ministry fair, interviews with founding parishioners, a display of a historical collection representing the events celebrated by the church over the past 50 years, and much more.

A buffet and children’s menu, in addition to a variety of desserts, will be offered. Family events also will include children’s crafts, sidewalk chalk artwork and dancing to music from the five decades.

Commemorative memorabilia such as T-shirts, lapel pins, tote bags and medallions will be available for sale.

The celebration will conclude with a rosary prayer service and jubilee Mass with the Knights of Columbus Council 15 honor guard at 5 p.m.

Those planning to attend are being encouraged to RSVP at Masses.

A commemorative picture directory of all parish ministry groups, councils and individual families will be made available by appointment during September and October.

Additional information is available at, or (860)628-4901. The 50th anniversary celebration will take place rain or shine.

Mary Our Queen Parish was established by the late Archbishop Henry J. O’Brien on Sept. 21, 1961. Father A. Waine Kargul became pastor there in March.
