stblaiseday0213-7Father Daniel Akho blesses a man’s throat after the vigil Mass on Feb. 2 in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford. Throats were blessed after all Masses there in observance of the feast  day(Feb. 3) of Saint Blaise, who is invoked for protection against illnesses of and injuries to the throat. It is believed he was a bishop in Armenia who was martyred in the early fourth century. (Photo by Bob Mullen/The Catholic Photographer)
