A dedicated group of 60 parishioners from St. Gabriel Parish in Milford, led by contractor and team captain John Marmolejo, turned out on May 2 for the annual HomeFront Day to help refurbish the exterior of a local house; replace gutters, windows and doors; and spruce up the lawn.

“I’m ecstatic,” said homeowner Tonie Curtiss. “I can’t thank them enough. It’s an absolutely wonderful program.”

The 28th annual HomeFront Day drew 2,500 volunteers to revitalize 70 homes for low-income families throughout much of Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y.

More than 60 corporate, faith-based and civic groups took part, backed by the financial support of foundations, faith communities and individuals, as well as generous product donations from building suppliers and pro bono services from building trades professionals. (Photo by Mary Chalupsky)
