The celebration took place in the auditorium of Cathedral Green in Hartford.
With the archbishop and mayor is Saw Than, who thanked the honored guests for their presence on behalf of the Karen refugees, many of whom belong to the Cathedral of St. Joseph Parish.
The local Karen people have been assisted in many ways by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Hartford, which helped them escape civil and religious persecution in their native Myanmar.
About 350 people, who reside principally in the Asylum Hill area, attended the celebration, which featured long tables of traditional food, music, dance and crafts. (Photo by Karen O. Bray)
