obit-TrippDeacon James A. Tripp Sr. of Hamden, age 77, died on March 15, 2010, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

He was the husband of Ann Mappa Tripp for 58 years. He was the father of James A. Tripp Jr. of Wallingford and Robert W. Tripp of Groton and the brother of Marion Mitchell of West Haven and the late Helen Barber, Mary Leith and Walter, Charles and William Tripp. He had four grandchildren.

Born on May 29, 1932, in West Haven, he was a son of the late Arthur and Marie Schmidt Tripp. He started his career as a pipefitter for the former Armstrong Rubber Co. in West Haven. He was a plumbing and heating contractor for more than 40 years and owned and operated Tripp’s Bath Design Plus in Mount Carmel until his retirement in 1996.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate on June 8, 1991, by the late Archbishop John F. Whealon. He was a deacon at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Hamden for 11 years and at Blessed Sacrament Parish for six.

Auxiliary Bishop Christie A. Macaluso celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on March 19. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
