Casey_JohnNEW HAVEN – Father John D. Casey, 81, former pastor of St. Boniface and St. Casimir parishes in New Haven, died on Oct. 20, 2011, at the Hospital of St. Raphael.

He was born Nov. 1, 1929, in New Haven, a son of the late John and Julia (Halloran) Casey. He studied at Worthington Hooker School and St. Mary’s Academy in New Haven, St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield from 1947-49 and St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore from 1949-55. He was ordained in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, by Archbishop Henry J. O’Brien on May 19, 1955.

Father Casey served as pastor of St. Boniface for more than 26 years, retiring on Sept. 30, 2004. He also had been parochial vicar at St. Rose in Meriden, St. Mary in Newington, St. Teresa in Woodbury, St. James in Rocky Hill and St. Ann in Devon. He was named pastor of St. Boniface on June 23, 1978. During his pastorate, he also was the administrator of St. Casimir from 1994 until 2004.

Upon his retirement, he moved to St. Therese in North Haven, where he served with Father Timothy A. Meehan.

Father Casey was predeceased by his one brother, William.

Archbishop Henry J. Mansell was the principal celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial on Oct. 25 at St. Therese Church. Interment followed at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven.
