MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Sister Mary Cilurzo, 93, a member of the Religious Teachers Filipini, died Nov. 29, 2013, at St. Joseph Hall, Home Healthcare Facility of the Religious Teachers Filippini, at Villa Walsh in Morristown.

She was born in Soverato, Italy, and lived in Syracuse, N.Y., as a child. She entered the Religious Teachers Filippini on July 13, 1949. She received the religious habit on Sept. 3, 1950, and made her final religious profession on Aug. 17, 1953.

Sister Mary Cilurzo  received  an Associate of Arts degree from Villa Walsh College. She taught in the primary grades and also performed mission work. She ministered in the Hartford Archdiocese and Norwich Diocese as well as in several other dioceses on the East Coast.

Sister Mary retired at Villa Walsh in 1993. She became a resident of St. Joseph Hall at Villa Walsh in 2004.

Sister Mary is survived by her brothers, Vincent and Joseph Cilurzo, and her sisters, Anne Fitzpatrick and Nicholina Collar.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 3 by Father Ronald Sordillo, a priest of the Diocese of Paterson. Interment was Dec. 4 at Ave Maria Cemetery.
