EAST HAVEN – Deacon William H. Eyles, 84, of East Haven, husband of the late Dolores K. Eyles, died on Dec. 26, 2015.

Born in New Haven on June 2, 1931, he was a son of the late Edward and Alice Eyles.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marion A. Jensen; and brother, George E.F. Eyles. He  is survived by a niece, Judy Brown, and two nephews.

He graduated from Hamden High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force until 1955, including in Korea.

He prepared for the permanent diaconate at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield and was ordained on Dec. 1, 1978, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford by the late Archbishop John F. Whealon.

Deacon Eyles had served the parish communities of St. Vincent DePaul in East Haven, St. Mary in Branford, St. Clare in East Haven and St. Francis in New Haven.

He was employed by Burroughs Corp., TFI Corp. and Hall Industries.

Also, with his wife, he owned the Carvel Ice Cream Supermarket in Wallingford. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 89 in East Haven.

Auxiliary Bishop Christie A. Macaluso celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Jan. 8 in St. Margaret Church in Madison. Burial with military honors followed in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
