Francis Ngannou is known for his formidable ability to defeat opponents, but in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday he had to show that he had more than heavy hands to keep the heavyweight belt (up to 120kg). Facing interim champion Cyril Gein at the main event of UFC 270, in Anaheim (USA), the Cameroonian struggled with his opponent’s movement and enduring skill in the first two rounds and found in grappling the solution to changing the fight and title defense. Unanimous victory (48-47, 48-47, 49-46).

Ngannou tried to corner his opponent in the first seconds, but the Frenchman did not want to push to see and got into his legs in search of removal. The linear hero defended himself and got on his feet. Jean’s movement made it difficult for the Cameroonian, who was unable to find the distance. Skillful, the interim champion altered strikes, seeking to snatch when necessary and avoid being within the opponent’s range of action. In the second round, the champion already seemed to show the first signs of fatigue, while Jane did not let go of the strategy and undermined the opponent with his kicks.
The fight seemed to go smoothly for Gane over time, but after attempting a high kick, Ngannou locked his leg and put it to the ground. Moreover, the hero, working on the ground and the pound, had his best moments, but allowed the Frenchman to wake up. The Cameroonian succeeded in another takedown in the end, but did little to nothing on the ground.

It looks like Ngano has found his way. Surprisingly, the knockout player found redemption in wrestling and got another takedown in the fourth round. Without a lot of technique on the ground, but with great strength, he managed to dominate his opponent and play at the top to secure the round. But in the fifth round, it was Gane’s turn to perform his first takedown and try to play it safer. However, the champion managed to sweep, defended the heel hook, climbed onto the stand and managed to win points.
