United Kingdom: Body evaluates police officer who killed Brazil native

A British police officer is under criminal investigation for the death of 26-year-old Brazilian Christopher de Carvalho Guedes. In October 2023, in London, the young man was hit by a car. oh Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), an independent office that investigates the conduct of police officers, completed an investigation this month and sent a document with evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the United Kingdom’s public prosecutor’s office. Now, officials will assess whether the agent should be formally reprimanded or not.

“During our investigation, a police officer was informed that he was being criminally investigated for the offense of causing death by dangerous driving,” the IOPC said. The agency emphasized that sending evidence does not mean there will be charges. Result CBSE

This action can make the police officer a defendant and analyze whether he will be the target of disciplinary action. Christopher’s family in Brazil have been updated throughout the investigation, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.

The IOPC collected and analyzed the videos recorded by the cameras on his police uniform and the dashboard of the car he was driving. The images show the driver running a red light, flashing lights and sirens to respond to the emergency. Christopher was riding his motorcycle when suddenly an official car hit him.

The motorcyclist was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) alive but did not survive. The victim was visiting a snack shop with her cousin, Wandeson Alves, 26, from Brasilia. Everyone rode their own motorcycle, but Christopher was the only one injured. He suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Great life in London

Cristopher de Carvalho Guedes was born in Gama, an administrative region of the Federal District, and was looking for a better life in England with his wife. He was in the British country for a month and died in an accident. The man used to do delivery services on his own motorcycle but was looking for another job.

He was keen on football and participated in many amateur championships in DF and surrounding areas. Christopher shared each achievement on social media – in one post, he celebrated the milestone of 19 titles: “I keep making history, even if some people underestimate me”.

Religious, the young man was active in the church he attended in Cama. He used to lead worship and pray for everyone present.

“He was so happy. Every time he spoke like he was there [em Londres] It was wonderful, the food was cheap, there were beautiful places, and he lived near a big football stadium,” said Christopher’s sister, Taisa de Carvalho Guedez, 31.

He also said that his brother praised the city’s traffic: “Unbelievable as it may seem, he said that the traffic there was very good, people walked slowly, not in a hurry, like here in Brazil, people were polite and did not. We had to worry.

Taisa added that Christopher also wants to take her to London and the move is planned for later this year. However, after his brother’s death, the plans were cancelled. “I lost a part of myself in pursuit of a dream there”, he lamented.
