A bridge collapsed during its reopening in Cuernavaca, Mexico, on Tuesday, 7. The event, which was for local authorities, was covered by the press, which recorded the fall’s moment.

Pictures show that about 20 people fell from the bridge into a creek filled with stones in Porfirio Diaz Park, among them the mayor of Cuernavaca, Jose Luis Oriostegui, advisers and journalists.

“I sincerely hope there are no serious injuries,” Morelos’ governor, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, wrote on Twitter.

The Civil Defense also posted on Twitter pictures of the relief operation at the scene and reported that the victims had been transferred to area hospitals.

The city of Cuernavaca will investigate the cause of the accident.
