Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: How Much Microsoft Paid To Get It On Xbox Game Pass

Analyst David Gibson revealed how much Microsoft paid to put Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on Xbox Game Pass: Between $5 and $10 million. This is a very large number, but it is definitely a prediction and not official information.

Gibson revealed rumored data about the impending announcement of Spartacus projectSony’s potential new subscription service for PlayStation, explaining why some of the choices that have emerged from the various rumors make the new subscription less attractive compared to Xbox Game Pass, but still interesting.

Keep in mind that MSFT paid about $5-10 million for Guardians of the Galaxy to be in Games Pass…that equates to $2 per game when the retail is $29. Well, that is all profit but not many publishers will do that due to the low economy of Game Pass.

Gibson then developed his concept by explaining how the Game Pass economy works. In fact, Square Enix raised $2 per subscriber, compared to $29 per copy sold in the physical market. Of course, $2 is all the earnings, but according to him, not all publishers are able to do the same, given the reasonable current price of Xbox Game Pass (you pay a little for many games).

We add that we should definitely consider the fact that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy have arrived on Xbox Games Pass largely after the commercial cycle has been sold out. Square Enix described the results as below expectations, so it’s no surprise Microsoft’s offer to monetize a bit was accepted.
