On Sunday (11/21), one day after the date commemorating Black Consciousness Day, Regina Duarte took to social networks and wrote a text criticizing the national holiday dedicated to reflecting on the integration of blacks into Brazilian society and the struggle against racism in Brazil.
The date was chosen because it coincides with the day attributed to the death of Zombie dos Palmares, the leader of Quilombo dos Palmares, one of the greatest leaders of the black resistance in the country who fought for the liberation of the people against the slave regime.
Actress and former Special Secretary for Culture in Jair Bolsonaro’s (non-partisan) government not only criticized the existence of the date on her Instagram, but also referred to the possibility of a “White Consciousness Day”.
“Yesterday was celebrated Black Consciousness Day. When will we have White, Yellow and Brown Consciousness Day…? How long will we still beat ourselves up under years, centuries of pain, because of ancestral guilt?” , he asked.
He concluded, “When will we stop looking back and face today, and bravely looking at each other with a clean face? Mature, sophisticated, aware of our struggle, united in our ability to be human? Simply brothers?” Veteran.
In the Comments tab, Gabriella Duarte’s mother has received support from some netizens, but she has also been the target of criticism for her controversial stance.
“Look at the damage,” wrote one follower. “The guilt of the ancestors who are still victims today. […] I’m just sorry for the ignorance, criticized another “senseless”, iii.
