President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has commented on the 30% reduction in Petrobras’ natural gas supplies from Bolivia’s state-owned Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB). Without naming names, the head of the federal executive called for action from the Brazilian company and said “everything appears to have been orchestrated in someone’s favour”.
Bolivia cut off 30% of our gas for delivery to Argentina. How has Petrobras acted on this issue as well? They all seem to be coordinated. Bolsonaro complained that gas, if you have to buy it elsewhere, is five times more expensive.
“Who will pay the bill? And who will be in charge?” He said in a video released on Monday (23/5), it is work that seems, you know, coordinated in your favour. You know who. From the post, it is not possible to determine the date of recording the images.

On Friday (21/5), Petrobras confirmed that since the beginning of May, YPFB has been providing a smaller amount of input. The contract for the supply of 30 million cubic meters per day has been in effect since 1999.
“Such a reduction of 30% was not expected and implies the need to import additional quantities of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet Petrobras’ supply commitments,” the state-owned company explained in a note.
Motivated by back-to-back fuel price increases and the company’s public earnings disclosure, the president has been criticizing Petrobras for weeks. Last week, Bolsonaro said the company is increasingly growing Gaining “a premium over the suffering of the Brazilian people”.
