When Brazilians think they’ll travel again, the news arrives and that’s a real bucket of cold water in trip planning. Air travel will be more expensive. The reason is that Petrobras announced a price increase of more than 11% aviation kerosene.
Passage to the consumer must be inevitable. That’s because a survey by the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear) showed that the increase in fuel this year alone is more than 64%.
According to Petrobras, aviation kerosene prices are adjusted month by month. This has been going on for over 20 years. This is a way of balancing values with the international market. The 11.4% adjustment took effect on June 1.
The increase takes into account the increase in the price of a barrel of oil. It is also affected by the war in Ukraine and also by the depreciation of the rial against the dollar.
With the increase in airline costs, due to the increase in the price of aviation kerosene, the trend is for tickets to become more expensive.
What was difficult can only get worse, because this year tickets are 20% more expensive. In May alone, the increase was 18.40%, according to IBGE data.
According to Abeer, the conversion to consumers It must be inevitable precisely because jet fuel accounts for more than a third of the total costs for airlines.
